In this Meitei name, the family name is Yumnam and the given name is Renu Bala. "Chanu" is a name suffix.
Yumnam Renu Bala Chanu (born 2 October 1986) is an Indian weightlifter, hailing from Kyamgei Mayai Leikai village located near Imphal, Manipur.[1] She secured a gold medal in the Women's 58 kg category at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.[2]
Career
Renu Bala's career kicked off when she was selected for training during a 'talent hunt' camp of Sports Authority of India, at Imphal in the year 2000, when after winning a silver in the state championship, she was recommended to the SAI.
She received training at Lucknow under Hansa Sharma and GP Sharma.[3]
Renubala hails from Manipur but represents Assam,[4] and was the third athlete from the former to have won a medal, after Soniya Chanu (silver in women's 48 kg) and Sandhaya Rani Devi (bronze in women's 48 kg
